The Baby Project
Okay ladies, I need your help. I am working on a project to make motherhood more comfortable. So please tell me how to do it. Unfortunately, I can't fix morning sickness or labor pains (believe me, I wish I could). I am thinking more along the lines of cribs or changing tables; something that mothers use but wish it was more convenient, easier to use, or had multiple functions. In other words, what is the one tangible thing about motherhood you wish could be changed? Think of anything you want. Ask your friends, ask your family. I need all the ideas I can get!

An crib that has a side that some how slides up so that the mattress can slide out and I can change the crib sheet and then slide it back in.

As for a changing table, I have never used one because it serves only one purpose and I don't need extra furniture taking up space. So maybe think along the lines of a multi-tasker changing table.

Our changing table was actually a dresser too. Jon still uses the dresser. You wouldn't know it was a changing table anymore to look at it. But way back in Erin's day it had a pad attached to the top of it. So if you buy one..buy something like that because then you can use it later. I love that crib idea where the mattress slides out. It is IMPOSSIBLE to change crib sheets. That's a great idea. Someone should market a crib like that. They also sell cribs now that convert into headboards for a normal bed when the time comes.. Some even convert into normal beds. You just have to buy another mattress. Good luck. If you can't cure morning sickness then I don't know. That would have been my one and only request. The rest is nothing. Ha! Oh..and this isn't Jon. For some reason this is saying that this is Jon..but it's really Sugar.

Ginger capsules are the best for morning sickness. I would wake up early around 5, take them and then go back to sleep. By the time I really woke up they were in my system and the symptoms weren't as bad. Ginger snaps make a good snack too. If you don't need this advice right now, just tuck it under your hat and save it for when you do. ;) I love the crib idea. Maybe a car seat caddy, that would have pockets for an extra binki, diaper, small pack of wipes, or one that would hold a bottle or sippi cup for bigger babies. Something to protect the car seat straps from getting spit-up on them, some type of bib maybe. Good luck with your project.

i've always hated changing tables and have never used one cause i think it's annoying to change a diaper sideways... so maybe a table that you can pull the top out rotate it, change the diaper, and then then turn it back to be parallel to the wall... if that makes since.
i'll try to think of more and let you know...
p.s. i got your message about the paper cutter almost ending my life in high school. that was probably one of the most embarresing moments in my life next to having some garment bottoms trailing out from my pants (from the laundry),like a peice of toilet paper, walking around macey's grocery store last year...

Thanks for all the comments guys. I really appreciate it. And Cassie, that is probably the funniest story I've ever heard!

Yeah, the garment story is hilarious! I remember Cassie sent me a text from Macey's telling me how mortified she was right after it happened! I was laughing all day about it!

Well now that Ava is almost 2 and a half I am really trying to rack my brain...
One thing that would be awesome is combining two or three basic ideas into one. (saving money and space) For example: a seat that could attach to a high chair base then used as a booster at the table and also could be used as a "Bumbo" type seat anywhere else needed throughout your home.
I bought all three things individually~

It is frustrating that the lists of items needed after your baby is born is never ending. I think things have gotten better but I like the idea of purchasing an item that can change as your baby grows, like Ava's the crib that turn into toddler beds and into a regular bed with headboard later~

I will let you know if I think of anything else later on... I guess the theme of my story is anything with muli-purpose features is so appealing to a Mother like me.

I agree with something that can help change crib sheets. I hate doing that. How about some sort of paging device for pacifiers, so you can find them when you need them. This would also be very helpful for lots of things(tv remotes, shoes, etc). I'll keep thinking.

What I want is a baby monitor that the parent can talk into, like the parent reciever is also a walkie-talkie. I want to be able to hear my kids in the basement and also be able to talk to them from upstairs.

I definitely agree with the whole making it easier to change the crib sheet idea that would be amazing. I have a changing table that attaches to the wall and pulls down to save space and it's nice cuz I don't have to change diapers sideways. But is is metal and very unattractive so maybe something that is like a cupboard so you wouldn't know it was a changing table which would make the room look nicer. Plus anything that you could put extra storage on would be good for any parent.
