So let's start with a question: What tool, appliance, or furniture item could be developed, produced, or improved for the kitchen that improves social interaction between your family?
I think we can all agree that there is a lot of noise that distracts us from time with our family - especially during dinner time. (Guilty as charged). So let's think of a way to change it, or at least improve it. Please leave your comments, suggestions, and ideas.

A maid, cook, or dishwasher ;-). But seriously, great question. I've got to think about it a bit more.
My first thought was the problem with being the table runner. Amid trying to get little hands washed and getting the table set, I always seem to forget a few things. Like I almost always forget napkins, the water pitcher, salt and pepper or an extra fork. What would be a great is a caddy that holds all that kind of stuff. So all I have to do is fill the caddy and sit down. Otherwise, I am constantly getting up and down getting things that I forgot to set on the table in the first place.
Oh Rookie, great minds must think alike because your idea is the genius idea I had in the night! I was thinking about how mom's always end up running back and forth from kitchen to table to retrieve forgotten items, butter, salt, pepper, fork, napkins, etc. So I was think similarly of some sort of caddy that doesn't necessarily have to sit on the table but does make its way into the eating area. This would help mom's focus more on what is needed for each meal as she pulls out her caddy and compares what is needed instead of carrying each item individually. This is where I believe much is lost, the fact that everything is carried in separately!
I think something safe for the kids to stand/sit near the bench to help with baking and or dinner prep, my kids are little but love to be involved with anything to do in the kitchen
